Anti-Racism

YUGSA is proud to support the following organizations fighting racism.

The Black Love Matters Community Symposium

The Black Love Matters Community Symposium is open to both students and community members, this course investigates how urban planning is informed by and closely related to the overarching, infrastructural challenges faced by the African, Caribbean & Black Canadian community in the GTA. The workshop will provide insight into alternative, anti-racist planning strategies and projects that promote community development in the GTA, while introducing participants to the movements and organizations that seek to respond to the peculiar violence of Canadian-style, anti-Black racism. Learn more.

Campus Antifascist Network (CAN)

Islamophobia is on the rise in Canada, fuelled by the neo-fascist leader of the United States and the rise of the alt-right. Unsurprisingly, the same forces that are heightening Islamophobia are also spreading hate of other varieties: anti-Semitism, homophobia, sexism, etc. In this context, YUGSA has joined the recently-formed Campus Antifascist Network (CAN), which is intended to help support, educate and defend faculty, students and staff, and share information on planned fascist activities, and organized antifascist responses. Learn more.
