YUGSA Health Plan

The YUGSA Health Plan is a medical insurance plan designed to be comprehensive and low cost, and is provided by We Speak Student. The plan is compulsory for all full-time students without comparable coverage for drugs AND dental. The plan is optional for those registered part-time. Students also have the ability to opt-in spouses (including common-law and same sex partners) and children. Those students with equivalent or greater coverage with another plan can opt-out. The plan covers you from September 1st to August 31st regardless of your opt-in date. Students starting in the summer or winter term are NOT automatically included in the health plan but may opt in.

As of September 2017, the YUGSA has negotiated a new health plan with We Speak Student in order to provide better coverage to students and to give them the flexibility to choose a plan that best fits their needs at no additional cost. Students can choose any one of the four options listed below:

1. Balanced plan (automatic enrollment)
2. Prescription drugs focused plan
3. Dental coverage focused plan
4. Extended health focused plan

The above options are equal in value, with different combinations of drug, dental, vision, and travel coverage.

Detailed information on coverage and choosing a plan option is available here.
